Shockheaded Peter Revisited

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zqx9SXIsF5I&feature=share&list=PLwULBaitLs__Qi4dQ5dZV6mnc_DeSX0Jw

As a holiday gift to our fans, The Art of Bleeding has just released some excerpts from the rarely seen 1955 German movie, “Der Struwwelpeter” ( or “Shockheaded Peter” as it is perhaps best known here via The Tiger Lillies’ marvelous theatrical and musical adaptation.)

Above we present “The Dreadful Story of Pauline and the Matches,”  but several more episodes can be found in our Struwwelpeter playlist on our Youtube Channel.

Previously unavailable with English subtitles, we have taken the liberty of adding our own somewhat creative translations, frequently embroidering satirically on the original.  Literalists beware!

The book on which it is based is a sort of 19th-century antecedent to The Art of Bleeding’s program of health-and-safety pedagogy — with a similarly grisly twists.   The original 1845 publication was one of the first works of children’s literature, created as a Christmas gift by its author for his own children, so it seemed an appropriate holiday offering.

Tonight Ye Olde Hushe Clubbe recklessly prescribes a mix of medical, musical and vaudevillian entertainments with inevitable risk of mind-altering interaction.

Legendary producer, artist, and underground luminary KIM FOWLEY offers his inimitable musical ravings, channeling the timeless teenage Id through a polluted septuagenarian stream of consciousness. It’s a new and interactive art form, like group therapy with a back-up band. Some will be healed, some demons invoked.

Thanks to Nurse SNOW MERCY, Fowley has recently joined forces with the surrealist-satiric ambulance crew of THE ART OF BLEEDING to star in their latest production, ALL THINGS NICE, which premieres tonight.

With this semi-animated video short, these parodic paramedicals reach new heights of age-inappropriate entertainment, mixing nursery rhymes, anatomical striptease, and overly developed doll-women. Fowley gets cozy with a scalpel and leads the way. Nurses featured in the video are: Snow Mercy, Nurse Poppy, Nurse Amanita, Nurse Amputette, Nurse Tayler, Kat, and Kristina.

The ever-more-scantily clad ART OF BLEEDING NURSES appearing in the video will also be on hand to tend to the faint of heart, and you are invited to DRESS FOR THE HOSPITAL in order to receive their ministrations. The reclusive ABRAM THE SAFETY APE will also make a rare appearance to guide the easily misguided through his multimedia world of Health and Safety infotainment.

Comedian and recovering circus impresario ERIC CASH will offer commentary (and probably tribute to the eldritch Gods) throughout the night. His yelling, kicking, screaming fight against reason has sullied the stages of many a comedy club, dive bar, and even a junkyard, and he looks forward to leaving his comedic stain on Ye Olde Hushe Clubbe tonight.

Rounding out the evening will be the curvatures of burlesque artist and actress in tonight’s featured video, KRISTINA NEKYIA. Expect a sizzling and not-quite tasteful medically-themed performance.

DOORS 9:30. Come early because the venue is TINY and this incomparable presentation is UNREASONABLY, IMPROBABLY and ENTIRELY….

“It Wasn’t Arizona”

In the interest of puppet safety, The Art of Bleeding brings you this musical recap of events surrounding the arrest of predatory puppeteer and evangelical kid show host, Ronald Brown.

If you haven’t been following what is surely one of the most lurid stories of the year, a bit of background from The Huffington Post:

A Florida puppeteer who entertains children at birthday parties, schools and churches, secretly wanted to rape, kill and eat them, cops said.

Ronald Brown, 57, of Largo, was arrested last week after federal agents found that he’d allegedly been chatting online with child pornography suspects about “extremely graphic discussions regarding kidnapping, sexually abusing, murdering and eating children,” according to a federal complaint obtained by the Tampa Bay Times.

The details are gruesome….. (more)

New Art of Bleeding Video in Production

The blog’s been sleepy, but we’ve been more than busy on the shooting stage.

“All Things Nice,” a new video set in a sort of surreal doll hospital and starring ever-shocking rock impresario Kim Fowley along with the Art of Bleeding nurses will be in production throughout the summer. Look for a premiere event in early Fall.

Meanwhile… a few teaser images. Enjoy!

What We Did with our Nov-Jan Vacation

ana-gutierrez

Maybe you’ve noticed: we tend to overextend ourselves.   Not only does this blog cruelly stimulate and occasionally sate your need for medical curiosities, but it does double duty promoting the tenuously related activities of The Art of Bleeding Magic Ambulance crew.  Squeezing in hours to actually produce those ambulance shows can itself be a distraction from blogging.  Anything beyond that, and something gives.

That’s when the blog goes black.   Immediately after our “Halloween Highway” gore spectacular, your humble blogmaster was summoned away by a past that just won’t quite stay buried.   You see, The Art of Bleeding’s absurd spectacles are genetically related to those of The Cacophony Society, a national cabal of pranksters and eccentrics, which is the subject of a recent museum exhibition, which I, as former wrangler of the Los Angeles lodge, was called away to help curate.

It was a mad rush, allowing no time for blogging over even organizing the Art of Bleeding appearance at the exhibition opening February 4.  Our ambulance performance this time round was of a highly “improvisational” nature, but we’ll be back with something more… errr, organized, at the April 7 closing party.

In any case, we’re more or less back, and below are some pictures from AoB’s participation in the event. Photos below are courtesy Curious Josh, Lee Joseph Publicity, and The Orange County Register.

(Note: The giant fetus depicted below is from a Cacophony/Art of Bleeding collaboration, the “Prenatal Emergency” installation at Cacophony’s “Museum of Mental Decay.”  Here it is in situ.)
